FAQs
Can more than one GridBox unit be utilized to reach a higher kW output and/or kWh capacity for industrial energy storage?
Yes, multiple GridBox units can be paralleled together to reach the desired kW output and/or kWh capacity. When deploying more than one GridBox unit on the same system, a master controller is required. GridBox systems are compatible with most third party master controllers.
What GridBox products currently are PV and DC-coupling capable and how much kWdc can be connected?
All 10GB-0100 GridBox products have inherent PV DC-coupling capabilities. PV solar kWdc capacity is 200kWdc with a max voltage of 900Vdc. Other configurations are possible based on specific project needs.
What GridBox products currently are PV AC-coupling capable and how much PV kWac can be connected?
All GridBox products are PV AC-coupling capable. However, when operating GridBox with AC-coupled PV in Grid Island (standby mode) operation a microgrid controller is required. The controller will choreograph when to discharge and charge GridBox, when to curtail PV solar production when GridBox is fully charged, and when facility load does not exceed OV solar kW output. Also please note, an appropriately sized electric panel or switchboard, external to the GridBox, will be required to provide breaker or fused switches to allow all sources to parallel with each other.
Can Lithion Battery and GridBox offer a microgrid controller and remote monitoring to integrate AC-coupled PV solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS)? How does it work?
Yes, Lithion Battery offers the GridBox EAM. The EAM includes a gateway device and data aggregator with onsite data storage. The gateway device acts as a firewall interface between the Lithion Battery 24/7 command center that monitors BESS installations, and the data aggregator. The data concentrator polls data from each GridBox at a high rate to capture operational change of state and analog values. That data is then analyzed at the site to consolidate key trouble alarms, failure alarms, temperature values, operational status, and more to reduce the amount of data streamed through the gateway device to the command center. Data sets will be updated every 15 minutes in this command center. Any trouble or failure alarms will trigger an event report containing high resolution data capturing of pre-events leading up to the triggered event. The algorithm in the data concentrator will issue pre-fault maintenance alarms to notify customers of predicted failures, allowing them time to have the components serviced before they fail and cause further issues. Predicted failure alarms also allow customers to resolve issues before they occur to better guarantee BESS uptime.
